Rep B Competitive Hockey is a development-focused, Tier 3 program for players ready to advance beyond house league. It combines structured practices, regular competition, and team-based development to help players grow their skills in a more challenging and committed environment.

Time Commitment

  • 4–5 days per week (games, practices, training, and team activities)
  • Consistent attendance is a requirement of the program. Players are expected to attend all scheduled team events. Frequent or uncommunicated absences may impact team placement

Player Development

  • Regular on-ice and off-ice training with similarly skilled players
  • Focus on skill development and maintaining a competitive standard within the OBMHL

Games & Season

  • Tryouts start during the first week of September
  • ~30 regular season games (1–2 per week)
  • Season runs through March (longer if advancing to finals)

Travel

  • Primarily within the City of Ottawa
  • Some travel to: Carleton Place, Pakenham, Rockland, St. Isidore, Casselman, etc.
  • Travel expectations increase as you progress through the years

Tournaments

  • Set by the HEO pathway, currently a maximum of 5 per season
  • Typically require travel (2–6 hours)
  • May involve missing school on Fridays

Practices

  • Minimum 26 scheduled practices
  • Additional ice times added when available

Family Commitment

  • Strong attendance and participation are expected
  • Families should be prepared to support full involvement in team activities

Tryout Process

  • Held early September (starting Labour Day weekend)
  • Players receive a minimum of 2 pathway skate sessions before evaluations begin
  • Independent evaluators assess:
    • Skating
    • Puck handling
    • Game sense
    • Adaptability and effort
    • Positional play (as of U12)

Important:

  • No contact with coaches or evaluators during tryouts
  • Selection decisions are made collaboratively to ensure fairness

Costs

In addition to standard registration fees:

Team Fees

  • Approximately $1,000 per player
  • Covers:
    • Tournaments
    • Additional ice
    • Development
    • Team expenses
  • Instalment payments can be negotiated
  • Full details provided at the Parent Team Meeting after Team Roster has been confirmed

Registration & Tryout Dates

  • Players must register with their home association first
  • Tryout schedules released in August

Coaching Selection

  • Coaches must complete required certifications:
    • Vulnerable Sector Check
    • Hockey Canada certifications, as required by the specific age division applying for

Requirements:

  • Previous coaching experience required
  • Competitive or head coaching experience is an asset
