Head Coach – Matthew Milam

Bio
My name is Matthew Milam and I’m an apprentice carpenter by trade. I love hockey and I played for many years. Hockey brought me such great joy and I won four league championships with the Leitrim Hawks. In my teenage years, I played competitive ultimate frisbee where I would go on to win a bronze medal at the 2023 Jr. Canadian Ultimate Championships. This past season (2025-26) I started coaching hockey with the Leitrim Hawks organization as an Assistant Coach with a U13 House league team and the U14 Rep-B team. I realized I wanted to do more and give back to the community that gave me such great memories, skills, and disciplines. I coach because I want to make a difference in young people’s lives. I love hockey and I want to coach and mentor the next generation of hockey players.

Hockey Philosophy

I’m a very competitive young man and as such I want to coach players who are competitive in nature. I’m doing this because I care so deeply about this sport of hockey and I want to show the next generation what is achievable when you put your mind to something and truly work at it and give everything you got, great things can happen. I coach to make a difference. Playing hockey taught me how to teach it, playing Ultimate taught me what it takes to win at the highest levels.
