Head Coach – Mark Blakeney

Bio

Growing up in Nova Scotia, I played in my local Minor Hockey Association as well as for my high school hockey team. I have continued to play in recreational leagues throughout my life. 

With three kids in hockey within the Gloucester Hockey Association, over the past 12 years, I have been either the Head Coach or Assistant Coach for all of their teams at various levels from ranging from House A/B to Rep B and AA. I’ve also coached numerous spring and summer teams. My strengths as a coach include the ability to make connections with the players which promotes stronger communication and a better understanding of their strengths and weaknesses. I also run high-paced practices that promote skill development by including drills that are challenging and fun at the same time.

Coaching Philosophy

I believe that confidence plays a major role in the development of hockey players on and off the ice, and I think that if we can provide a positive environment where players are challenged to meet their full potential, they will become more and more confident as players and as individuals. I believe in practicing skill development according to Hockey Canada guidelines, with an emphasis at this age being on technical skills, individual tactics, and team play. I plan to incorporate these guidelines into practices in a progressive manner, which will allow for the players to maximize the development of their skills.
